On the first of July 2022 Jan Willem Louwerens will celebrate the end of his career as an orthopedic surgeon at the Sint Maartenskliniek. Jan Willem realized a major clinical and scientifical contribution to foot and ankle surgery, not only in the Netherlands but also internationally. He was one of the founders of the Dutch Foot and Ankle Society (DFAS) and a board member and president of the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS). We are pleased to welcome several well known international foot and ankle experts on this symposium.

Jan Willem’s special interest in foot and ankle problems in neuromuscular disease led to a close cooperation with his colleagues of the rehabilitation department. This cooperation led to a state of the art Gait Expertise Centre (LEC) which officially opened in 2019. Because Jan Willem was a driving force in the realization, special attention will be paid to the Gait Expertise Centre (LEC) at the symposium.
